Wicomico County Jail Mugshots Overview
Wicomico County's sampled inmate feed includes booking-photo-style images through Appriss/VINE image fields. The public sheriff inmate-search URL exists at the Wicomico Sheriff inmate-search page, but the inspected page displayed an unavailable notice rather than usable name or booking-number fields. The underlying OCV/VINE feed referenced by the sheriff site contained current custody entries for Wicomico County Detention Center and included images.small and images.large URLs for sampled records.
The sheriff also publishes a Most Wanted feed with photographs, but those images are wanted-person photos and should not be treated as current jail mugshots unless the record itself makes that clear. Wanted entries can be useful for warrant context, but the booking-photo question belongs with the jail roster, VINE/Appriss custody data, or a Maryland Public Information Act request to Wicomico County Corrections.
The public Wicomico County Sheriff's Office inmate-search page currently shows the roster-access limitation directly. When that page is unavailable, use the jail phone, Maryland VINE, and a Corrections PIA request rather than assuming that no Wicomico booking photo exists.
That unavailable notice is why a Wicomico mugshot search should include fallback routes instead of stopping at the first roster link.
Where to Find Wicomico County Booking Photos
The first county-specific place to check is the sheriff inmate-search feature, followed by the VINE-backed custody path if the sheriff page remains unavailable. The public feed sample used Wicomico County Detention Center as the reporting agency and listed the jail address and phone. If a photo is not online, use Wicomico County's Public Information Act form, choose Department: Corrections, and ask for the booking photograph with enough identifiers for staff to locate the correct record.
- Open the sheriff inmate-search page and note whether the roster feature is available or still unavailable.
- Use Maryland VINE or the VINE-backed custody feed when available to confirm current custody status.
- Match the person by full name, booked date, inmate ID, age, and reporting agency before relying on a photo.
- If the booking photo is not published, submit a Wicomico County PIA request to Corrections for the named person, booking date, inmate ID if known, and the specific booking photograph requested.
- For current custody questions, call Wicomico County Detention Center at 410-548-4850 before traveling or sending money.
For broader custody context, the Wicomico County inmate records page explains how the roster, VINE, jail phone, state locator, federal locator, and PIA channels fit together. Mugshots are only one field in that larger custody record.
What a Wicomico County Booking Photo Shows
The research sample did not document side-profile images or multiple angles. It found a single frontal photo-like image field in sampled VINE/Appriss records. The photo appears with custody and identity fields, but the feed is not a complete court docket and sampled top records did not show public charge values even though charge metadata fields existed.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| images.small / images.large | Booking-photo-style Appriss/VINE image URLs when populated; sampled Wicomico entries included photos. |
| Name | Roster name fields such as title, firstName, lastName, and titleWithFirst. |
| Inmate ID | A numeric roster identifier used by the custody feed, not necessarily a court case number. |
| Demographics | Height, weight, gender, race, and age; sampled inmate records did not show DOB. |
| Custody Status | Status such as IN, plus a custody status date and time. |
| Booked Date | Date of admission into custody at the jail. |
| Holding Facility | MDWICOMICODC, tied to Wicomico County Detention Center. |
| Reporting Agency | Wicomico County Detention Center name, 411 Naylor Mill Road address, and 410-548-4850 phone. |
| chargeArray | Possible charge, bond, and disposition fields, but actual values were not visible in sampled top records. |
Are Wicomico County Jail Mugshots Public Record?
Maryland does not have one simple public-facing mugshot statute in the research file. The safer answer is that booking photos are governed by the Maryland Public Information Act and law-enforcement record exceptions. A Maryland General Assembly fiscal note for 2015 HB 744 summarized a 2007 Attorney General view that police-held mug shots are not protected criminal-history record information and must be disclosed under MPIA, subject to exemptions. That means a Wicomico requester can ask for a booking photo, but the custodian may still review privacy, investigatory, correctional, or law-enforcement limits before release.
Key Statutes:
Maryland General Provisions §4-101 defines public records and custodians under the Public Information Act.
Maryland General Provisions §4-201 establishes the general right to inspect public records unless an exception applies.
Maryland General Provisions §4-351 allows custodians to deny certain investigatory, law-enforcement, prosecution, and correctional records when statutory standards are met.
Maryland HB 744 fiscal note, 2015 summarized the Attorney General view that police-held mug shots are public records under MPIA, subject to exceptions.
How Long a Mugshot Stays on the Roster
The research did not locate an official Wicomico retention window for how long a jail mugshot remains online after release. The sampled feed showed current custody entries with custody status IN, which means the public photo access observed in the research is tied to current custody reporting rather than a historical mugshot archive. Wicomico Detention Center staff also are not permitted to give release dates or court dates to the general public, so public users should rely on VINE, the inmate, the attorney, the court docket, or a formal records request for timing questions.
What is and isn't public: A current roster record may show a booking-photo-style image, name, physical descriptors, custody status, booked date, and reporting agency. It may not show court charge text, court dates, release dates, juvenile or restricted records, sealed or expunged material, or records withheld under MPIA exemptions.
How to Request a Wicomico County Booking Photo
Wicomico County publishes a county-level Public Information Act process rather than a jail-specific mugshot form. The county says PIA requests may be submitted by letter, email, or the county PIA Request form. For booking photos, choose Department: Corrections and make the request narrow: full name, booking date, inmate ID if known, the facility name, and the phrase "booking photograph" or "booking photo." The county PIA materials say the county does not have to create records that do not exist, may charge reasonable copying, search, and preparation fees, and must respond within 30 days unless more time is needed and granted by the applicant.
The county Public Information contact is the Government Office Building, 125 N. Division Street, Room 303, Salisbury, MD 21803-0870. The county phone number for that office is 410-548-4801. For current jail custody confirmation, use Wicomico County Detention Center at 411 Naylor Mill Road, Salisbury, MD 21801, phone 410-548-4850. A PIA request is better for a copy of a record; a phone call is better for basic current-custody routing.
Sheriff Most Wanted Photos vs. Jail Mugshots
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Most Wanted page is relevant because it uses photographs and warrant details, but it is not a jail roster. It can show a wanted-person photo, name, physical description, DOB or age, hair and eye color, last known address, wanted-by court or agency, reason such as failure to appear or violation of probation, and a bond note. Some entries use phrases such as cash bond or no preset bond and say the person must be brought before the court.
Use Most Wanted for public warrant context only. If the question is whether a person has a current jail booking photo, confirm through the jail roster, VINE/Appriss custody data, the Detention Center, or a Corrections PIA request.
Mugshot Removal and Sealed Records
A booking photo can outlast the moment of arrest, but a criminal case may later be dismissed, expunged, shielded, or otherwise restricted. Maryland Criminal Procedure §10-105 governs expungement eligibility for many non-conviction outcomes and certain charges. If a Wicomico court record is expunged or sealed, keep court documentation and send it to any custodian or third party that still displays the record. The county's disclosure duties follow MPIA, court orders, and applicable exemptions, not private website practices.
Do not rely on commercial mugshot websites for Wicomico County booking-photo access, removal, or accuracy. The reliable route is the official custody source, the court record, and the records-clearing process. For the case side of sealing or expungement, use the Wicomico County court records after jail arrest information and contact the appropriate court clerk when a certified record or order is needed.
Federal and State Booking Photos
County jail mugshots should not be confused with state prison, federal, or immigration locator records. Maryland DPSCS runs the state Incarcerated Individual Locator for people committed to the Commissioner of Correction and housed in covered Division of Correction, Patuxent, and some short-sentenced DPDS facilities. That state locator is separate from Wicomico County jail custody. A person sentenced to state custody may disappear from the county roster and need to be searched through DPSCS instead.
Federal BOP and U.S. Marshals channels generally do not publish mugshots through public inmate locators. ICE ODLS is a detainee locator, not a mugshot gallery. If a federal defendant is housed locally, the Wicomico jail roster may show the person only if Wicomico County Detention Center reports that custody. Otherwise, use federal court records, the U.S. Marshals District of Maryland, BOP, ICE ODLS, or attorney contact rather than expecting a county mugshot gallery.
